John Bird has quite a considerable reputation within the trade for his knowledge of antique furniture and the authenticity of his pieces.
This current Painted Oak Side Table is a case in point. A plank top supported on a jointed frame with frieze drawer above a gothic fret cut apron. It stands on turned baluster legs and is joined by wavy x-framed stretcher on onion bun feet.
How good that this stunning piece of early furniture should comply so well with the current thinking. Not just recycled as all antiques are but doubly so. It is constructed from re-used Elizabethan timber, with remains of carving to the underneath. The drawer and sides have black graining and naive scrolling on a brown ground.
